I have no idea if this is really a SQL DB problem or not, but here goes. We have a SQL Server 2008 running on its own VM and several applications on other VMs that use it. Sometime last week (we're not exactly sure when), one application starting having a problem.
Which App Service Plan are you using? If the “Always On” is not turned On, I would suggest you turn On the “Always On” feature and see if that helps. Source: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0 Code: 1205 occurred 1 time(s) Description: Transaction (Process ID 193) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim.
Tech tried restarting a service, but that didn't help, so he restarted the server. Now both applications on that VM have problems. Several of the services required for those applications won't start (Actually they start then stop) and we find this error in the Event log: Unable to establish connection to database: DBNETLIBConnectionOpen (SECCreateCredentials).SSL Security error We have googled that error and found nothing useful.
Two additional clues. We are unable to rdp to this VM (I have to access it from the host console) and WindowsUpdate fails with an error code: 80072F8F (searched that too, no joy) The other application running on its on VM is happily connecting to the DB so, I am lost. Services have been unavailable for 36 hrs and counting; any ideas?
Hello ryandaley, my name is Randal, and I'm an engineer at FairCom, the makers of the c-tree Database Engine that is the underlying database for this version of the Follett software you have. My suggestion is to contact the folks at Follett, as they know how their application the best and it's utilizing the c-tree database. Short of that though, I'll try to point you in a direction to get you started - the c-tree Server version that Follett should be using will have a.exe name of 'ctsrvr.exe'. This process creates a text log file called CTSTATUS.FCS. This is just a text file and at the bottom it should tell you why it's having trouble starting. The c-tree Server administrator's guide is available on our web site here: with more information about how to administer our Multi-Model c-tree NoSQL + sql database.
Hope this helps. Actually, NIC drivers are notorious for being okay until something else gets updated to a new patch level and the NIC drivers do not resulting in sudden chaos with no warning. It's not the drivers themselves but a conflict with something else that it connects to that causes the problem. As a test for the firewall, I would turn it off temporarily and see if things start working.
Certain OS patches have been known to make changes to firewall settings (like turning on things that were turned off) and for adding new security features to things that default to off/blocked. Windows 2008/2008 R2 had a few infamous such things.
As a side not, virtualization is so much better in Windows 2012 R2 (or even 2012) that I would look into upgrading when you can. It's more important to be on the most recent OS in a virtual platform than it is in bare metal machines. And because they eliminated Enterprise Edition with 2012 R2, you may even be able to save money on Windows licenses.
